How to Take An Effective Mental Health Day
This one thing will change everything.
First thing to do if you want to take an EFFECTIVE MENTAL HEALTH DAY is know that you’re gonna totally blow your mental health day.
I mean blow it.
Big time.
Yep.
That’s it.
That’s the one thing you need to know to have an ‘effective’ ‘mental health’ ‘day.’
You’re gonna totally blow it.
And, damn that’s good news.
Why?
Cause if you can’t do it right, you’re free to just plain enjoy whatever the hell you do do.
(Hehe, do do.)
Here’s the deal: effective is subjective.
So you just have to decide what “effective” means to you.
Does it mean PERFECT?
Does it mean EXACTLY RIGHT?
Does it mean the BEST?
Blech.
That’s one way to totally blow a day, mental health or not. And NOT in a good way.
So just expect:
To mess it up.
To be bad at it.
To waste time.
To not get all of your ‘self-care’ done.
(Is there any list more destructive than not effectively completing all the self care you need to do? Barf!)
So here’s how to totally suck at taking your mental health day, but in a good way!
Make a list of all the things you want to do for your mental health day.
Circle the one or two things that you REALLY want to do.
Throw away your list.
Go eat some amazing food.
Try to remember those two things you circled.
Realize you are on instagram again and throw your phone across the room.
Eat more of that amazing food.
Watch that thing you love on Netflix that makes you feel a little bad, but like, in a good way.
Repeat step 8 one to four times.
Realize it is 6pm and you’ve wasted your mental health day.
Take a walk to…
Buy a donut.
Eat said donut.
Maybe keep walking. It’s nice out tonight isn’t it?
Take the call from that person you weren’t expecting to call.
Remember that one of the things you circled was “Go to the Beach.”
Put “go to the beach” on the calendar.
Get in your PJ.
Just kidding, you’ve been in your PJs all day.
Curl up in bed and read. (Who am I kidding, watch that show again, bitch!)
Congratulations!
You have completed your mental health day without beating yourself up that you didn’t have an effective enough mental health day.
Onward and upward!
Smooches,
Lynn
