Morning Cursing Guy

I sat down at my desk and opened my window. I breathed in the sweet fresh air, felt the tangy sting of the cold. And I heard:

Morning Cursing Guy.

Oh. Hello, there!

He seemed to be a ways off…

Or maybe still in his apartment nearby…

But he was there.

And he was loud.

And he was cursing.

(Boy was he curing.)

I’m all about the curse. The well positioned, well inflected, well timed F%$#!!! (It feels good. It’s effective too!)

Rarely, however, is this my choice in the 9am hour… Loud enough for a neighbor to hear…

But that’s just me.

Morning Cursing Guy and I aren’t the same.

That’s okay.

Maybe he’d had a particularly bad night.

Maybe we was playing a particularly frustrating video game.

Maybe he was trying a reverse psychology affirmation exercise!

Who’s to say?

Truth is I was a little worried.

I really hoped he wasn’t directing theses curses (evil spells after all, right?) at someone. I hoped that another human didn’t have to take the brunt of whatever he was feeling.

And it was loud.

And in general we don’t often curse for joy! (Although “Curse for Joy!” would be a fun 24 hour cancer fundraiser or something like that. I’m not trademarking it. Feel free to run with it.)

But Morning Cursing Guy settled down. And I went on with my morning.

Haven’t heard him for a while… Maybe he’ll be back, on a special day, like Santa.

Or maybe it was a one time thing. A human being just full-on letting it rip in the morning hours.

I really don’t know.

But I do know it made an impression.

So much of one that I titled a blog post Morning Cursing Guy on November 17th and came back on January 13th to write it.

So, he’s got that going for him.

Maybe that wild, loud, socially questionable thing that might wake you up, get you going, help you out...? Maybe it’s worth doing.

Just to see how it feels.

We salute you, Morning Cursing Guy. May you curses be loud. May they be early. And may the be long lasting… We salute you.

Smooches.
